UnCorked Art

UpTown Art Uncorked is a artsy place on Bardstown Road that I can’t wait to take my girlfriends to.  Here’s the concept.  First you pick the type of painting you would like to paint from their upcoming calendar.  Once you pick the masterpiece you are going to create, (like the whimsical poppy field class coming up on Sunday February 25th at 7pm), you get stroke-by-stroke instructions from the head artist on how to create the beauty yourself.

The best part? The reason the art is uncorked is because you get to sip on wine and martinis during the class.  It’s like a night on the town with your best friend Bob Ross! Third step? Hang it on your wall and pretend you were a tortured art minor in college.  It’s perfect.

The fine folks at UpTown Art Uncorked are hoping to increase the thumbs up on their Facebook page with the following promotion:

We are doing 15% off with the coupon code “UptownArt” only valid for classes signed up for online, expiring March 15th.  And if we get 1000 LIKES in a month, we will choose a lucky winner to paint for FREE in 2012, unlimited times!

The painting classes seem to range from $29-$39 for adult paintings with special classes that are less money geared towards children.  To make a reservation head to their website and book online.  Although if you are an early-bird this may interest you:

Feeling super adventurous? Check out a free class at 5 am, max 15 people! Coffee provided to help awaken your creativity (and eyelids) on February 27th.

Making art while drinking wine. Genius! Located at 2458 Bardstown Road.

I’ve got your fix

I’ve got your fix of Girl Scout cookies, a beautiful bundle of cookies so great they’ll send you to the store to get an extra gallon of milk.  It doesn’t matter that Tagalongs were called Peanut Butter Patties when you were little.  You know you still want them.  Especially since the cookies you pre-ordered have not and will not be delivered to our area until March! Oh yes I did!

Get your samoas, peanut butter cremes, thin mints, peanut butter patties, and trefoils! Ok fine. I'll throw in the Savannah Smiles (lemon cookies) and the Dulce de Leche caramel cookies too.

Although the pre-sales are over you still have one more time to purchase cookies during their booth sales March 2-March 18. Then it’s over for another year. The tech savvy Girl Scouts even have a cookie locator app that can be downloaded to find a cookie booth closest to you in March.

But you can’t wait that longGet your cookie fix right now! Tell me which Girl Scout cookie you love the best in the comment section of this post and you can win the whole bundle. I’ll even ship them to my far away subscribers! The winner will be pulled this Friday at 9 am. And sorry Boy Scouts. Popcorn is lame.

Calling All Restaurants!

Easter Seals is a group many people have heard of, but do you know exactly what they do? Locally the Easter Seals have been supporting Louisville kids since the 50’s, helping special needs children with speech, hearing, and developmental therapy.   They protect our kids’ senses! That makes sense!

The only thing closer to Louisville than our families is our passion for great food, which is why the May 3rd Taste of Oaks at the Galt House is such a worthy event.  I’m excited to join an event that last year had 800+ fine folks sampling from 17 restaurants, all for a great cause.  Has your family benefited from the Easter Seals?

Supporting the Easter Seals of Louisville

While May is still far away the Easter Seals are in full planning mode signing up restaurants to feature their food.  If you know a restaurant that is a perfect fit for this community event, pass along the reservation (PDF) and get signed up!

Celebrate BBC in a downtown loft with roses

Check out a shot of the coolest downtown loft located on the 3rd floor of the BBC on Main Street:

Isn’t she pretty? About the space:

The Four Roses Bourbon Barrel Loft is a recent renovation of the 3,000-square-foot third floor of The 300 Building. The contemporary lounge space includes a custom-built bar, posh furniture and modern tables, highlighted by bourbon barrel staves woven together to form a unique ceiling.

Gorgeous.  Check out the posh lounge yourself on re-vday (ha! @maddy_smiles).  Just pony up $50 pp on February 23rd, getting you a 4-course meal and an education on good bourbon and beer.  The meal includes an app of smoked beef brisket over cornbread served with bacon jam, shaved Gouda cheese and baby arugula. Next comes a baby spinach salad with pork belly, pickled red onions, sweet potato hay, toasted pine nuts, blood oranges and dried cherry vinaigrette. Third is bourbon marinated beef tenderloin served with butternut squash risotto and brown butter brussel sprouts topped with a smoked vanilla bean demi glaze. Top that off with a peanut butter crème brulee with bourbon ganache.

Plus you get to meet my buddy Jeremy Hunt.

300 W. Main Street. Need reservations? Call Melissa Purvis or Jason McGrew at 502.562.0090.

Hate the Sarah McLaughlin PSA? Something you can stomach.

Oh my goodness if I see another sad Sarah McLaughlin animal PSA I’m going to cry. But what’s a food and animal lover to do to help those cute critters? Luckily two of my favorite spots are teaming up for what should prove to be a great night.

Join the Animal Care Society February 20th at The Village Anchor, 11507 Park Road, Anchorage, KY 40223.  Our gracious hosts at the Village Anchor will donate 10% (including alcohol) of your check to our shelter when you mention The Animal Care Society!

I’m going to be there because I know how fulfilling it is to adopt rescues.  And I finally have an excuse to post a picture of my cats on my food blog.

Mush is my girlcat (left). Prince is my boycat. Aren't rescues the cutest?
